Force Options Instructor Course

This course is a 2-day train the trainer that covers handcuffing, baton, weapon retention, and pepper spray. The art of handcuffing is one of the most used tools in law enforcement and being able to handcuff in a safe tactical manner is important to the safety of your officers. There are many styles of handcuffing that are taught, but we believe we’ve taken the best of what is offered and placed it into one course. We also focus on the use of force concepts as well as positions of advantage that allows you to have an increased chance of coming out on top. This force options instructor course is designed for law enforcement, security & military personnel training for use with the baton, handcuffing, and pepper spray deployment.

The baton is seldom utilized in law enforcement because officers are not familiar with when and where they should or should not use the tool. We not only focus on sound techniques and simple concepts with the baton, but we also teach you as an instructor how to legally articulate when a baton can be reasonably used within an encounter. This course emphasizes instructor interaction and concepts to make you a better instructor for your agency, which is one of the most important aspects of your job. The use of pepper spray is still a valid tool in law enforcement since the taser does not meet every situation, which is why we’ve included this in our program. You’re not required to be exposed to pepper spray during this training if you’ve been previously exposed. We guarantee this course will fill up fast! The certification is valid for three years.

Cancellation Policy

The course cancellation policy requires a minimum of a 15-day prior notice from the course start date when a student will not be attending the course. The notification to not attend will be made by email through our website, and if they identify no replacement student, cancellations with less than a 15-day notice will cause a department credit that can be used towards another future training event within one year from the original course date. We will charge no-shows without email notification the full course fee, even if the payment has not already been made. We offer a one-year future course credit as well for any no show that is charged a full course fee. This policy is in effect as of June 23, 2021, and you as a representative of your agency agree to abide by this policy by registering for any course. Please contact us by email or phone if you have questions about this cancellation policy. This policy is in place because of students that register for courses and take training slots without attending training, which removes the opportunity for another officer to attend. We pay the instructors teaching these programs based on the number of officers scheduled to attend the event, and we base our travel cost including instructor pay on registration fees. This policy is considered a binding contract between BSTS LLC and the student or student agency or company.

I recently trained at the Eufaula Oklahoma class. I have been to other use of force training, but found this to be very useful and well taught. The drills will definitely be added to our training. Look forward to training with you all again.

  5. J Quinton

This class is very well put together. I learned alot, in a short period of time, but I did not feel rushed or overwhelmed. The pace of the class was very good. The material was well presented, put together and the instructor had vast knowledge of it. The material was made simple and practical. I would highly recommend this class. The cuffing and baton tactics I felt were updated and simplified from methods I’ve learned in the past.

  6. Lewis

I was pleased. I liked how on the hand cuffing it was less step and something I believe officers would use on the streets. Also I liked how we focused on when to get away from the subject and use other means of force.

  7. Spencer

Very informative and the functionality of this course is very necessary for everyone involved in Law Enforcement. Definitely taking this information back to my department and applying it all!

  11. Brian Sauter

I thought this was a great course. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and uses his years of experience in law enforcement mixed with his vast experience in martial arts to make the course useful for the everyday LCD (lowest common denominator). The tactics work great for every level of officer and the course is very little powerpoint and very hands on.
